Restoring youthful volume, contours and color to your lips is a breeze with lip fillers! With our comprehensive selection of injectables, including the Juvéderm® and Restylane® families of filler, we know you’ll love your results! We’re with you every step of the way, from your consultation to your appointment to the ever-important aftercare. With some crucial at-home tips, you can avoid minor side effects in the days following treatment and support your body’s healing process.
Without further ado, let’s jump into our top post-care tips.
Avoid certain activities in the 24 to 48 hours following treatment, including:
- Drinking alcohol
- Massaging, touching, biting or puckering your lips
- Strenuous exercise
- Drinking from a straw
Stay hydrated.
Drinking plenty of water will help your body heal properly. Plus, our lip fillers are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that works with the water stored in your tissues — by drinking enough water, you can ensure that your filler provides optimal results.
Do not travel by plane.
After your filler appointment, wait at least one week before traveling by air. The changing air pressure in an airplane can worsen or increase the likelihood of swelling and bruising, while the dry, recirculated air can dehydrate your lips and compromise your results.
Refrain from sleeping on your face.
Be sure to avoid sleeping on your face for one week, as it can exert pressure on the injection area and cause the filler to shift or migrate. If possible, try to sleep with your head elevated on pillows to help reduce swelling.
Wait until the filler settles before assessing your results.
While you might be excited to take a look at your results immediately after treatment, keep in mind that initial side effects like swelling and bruising can make it difficult to properly assess your improvements. You’ll be able to appreciate your full results approximately two weeks post-treatment.
Schedule follow-up appointments when needed.
HA-based lip fillers typically provide results that last six to 12 months (or even longer), depending on the speed at which your body breaks down the filler. You may choose to undergo touch-up treatments every six months or once a year to keep your lips looking youthful for the long-term.
