Now more than ever before, self-care is on everyone’s minds. How do you practice self-care? Aside from social distancing, do you make sure to get enough sleep and exercise? Are you eating right and limiting your exposure to the news? All these actions are key to maintaining your balance right now. But self-care truly encompasses so much more. When we talk about self-care here at Artisan’s Rejuvenation, we’re referring to any activity, product or treatment that brings you joy, health or peace of mind.
One of our favorite self-care treatments is laser hair removal. When life gets back to normal, you might consider trying it! While it may not be the most glamorous aesthetic treatment, hold on a second. Close your eyes and imagine your summer without constantly shaving, waxing or plucking. What could you do instead with the time and money spent each year on those tasks? Now imagine your days without razor burn, ingrown hairs or the uncomfortable realization – while in public – that you missed a spot?
Sounds pretty freeing, doesn’t it? We completely agree, and that’s why we offer laser hair removal. Here’s what you should know about this life-enhancing treatment before getting started:
How does it work?
The high-intensity controlled laser energy is non-ablative, meaning it penetrates into deeper tissue layers without damaging or injuring the surrounding skin. Pulses of laser energy are emitted into the skin via a handheld device, where the energy is converted into heat. The dark pigments of the hair follicles are targeted and gently heated, disabling them and preventing future hair regrowth on your targeted areas without downtime.
What can I do to ensure the best results?
For this treatment, the roots of your hair follicles need to be intact, so it’s best for you to stop plucking, waxing or doing electrolysis for at least one month before your treatment. It’s also important to avoid sun exposure, tanning beds and tanning creams, which increase your risk of side effects. One week before your treatment, you should stop using exfoliating agents such as Retin-A, glycolic acid, or photosensitizing medications. Lastly, it’s best to shave your treatment area the day of or before your treatment session, so your follicles are active and your hair is short enough for the laser to identify and target your follicles.
How long until I see my results?
You’ll start to see results two weeks to one month after your treatment. Because the laser can only effectively target active hair follicles, most people need several treatments to get the best results, since all your targeted hair follicles are never consistently active.
How long will my results last?
Once you’ve achieved your goal, most people can enjoy up to a year of benefits. To maintain your results over the long-term, however, we recommend periodic follow-up treatments, as needed.
